What’s in my brain is the excitement of releasing my first single, BITCH! The opportunity these days of musicians being able to release music without the record companies is a dream long realized for aspiring songwriters and performers. I had all but given up after years of frustration of not having control over my music career. Now with the miracle of the internet the possibility of thousands, perhaps even millions of people, to hear my music was, not much longer ago, the stuff of dreams! Yet here I am living the dream!
In this magical moment I reflect on how I got here and why make music at all. With all the hoops one has to jump through the whole process can seem rather daunting. I was raised in a household that cared about the plight of other people trying to survive in this world. ”A man’s measure is good deeds done” is a quote that keeps ringing in my brain from an early age that I have tried to live up to. Many in my family served in the Military, as fire fighters, nurses or put together food bags for the poor. They were my heroes and though I never served in the military the idea of becoming a hero, if not on the battle field then in my community fighting for the rights of the underprivileged.
In that regard I dedicated the launching of my music project to those unheralded heroes by choosing July 4th Independence Day as the kick off date. Pride in my country and community has always been a source of inspiration for me as an artist and as a man. Even the name of my band, The Human Nation is a rallying cry that we all need to come together as one humanity to push back against the forces of darkness that has wreaked such havoc in the world! That’s why I have a Community Service page offering people to find a way to serve and give back. We all have a Super Hero in us! I believe one single person can really change the world.
I didn’t want to just have a music career. I wanted to find a way that I can contribute to the upliftment of humanity in some way through my music. For me it’s a spiritual experience. I deeply care about those that struggle everyday trying to make it in this world. For me that caring has to be in my music. Perhaps veiled as entertainment but socially relevant as well. My latest single, BITCH is an ode to women being treated as second class citizens without regard to their personal power. It’s about a woman who takes back her sexual power to the annoyance of here boyfriend who in the end learns a hard lesson: Mess with the Goddess at your own peril! Every woman has a “bitch” in her that she can utilize to power up and protect herself in times of need. You go Girls!
I heard someone once say that “Music is the language of Humankind”
Right the freak on, baby!
